Effect of temperature, pH and nutrient media on the growth of Phytophthora capsici
1994
Trajcevski, T. (Poljoprivredni institut, Skopje, Macedonia (Yugoslavia))
4 isolates of Phytophthora capsici from different regions of Macedonia and former Yugoslav Republic were investigated. The optimum temperature for the growth of P. capsici colony was from 25 deg C (isolates N-1 and S-2), till 28 deg C (isolate S-3), or till 28-30 deg C (isolate K-4). A moderate growth of P. capsici colony was at the temperature of 15-20 deg C, as well as at 35 deg C, but relatively slow growth of the fungus was registered at 10 deg C. The most suitable media for the growth of P. capsici colony was onion agar. The optimum pH for the growth of P. capsici colony was between pH 5.0 (isolates N-1 and S-2), till 6.0 (isolate K-4), or till 6.0-7.0 (isolate S-3). A relatively fast growth of the fungus was at the media with pH 8.0, 9.0, 3.5, and 11.0.
