The NASBA-ELGA assay performed with nucleic acid obtained from a 24 h selective enrichment culture from naturally infected poultry products provides a specific method for detection of C. jejuni, C. coli, C. lari in poultry products. No false negative results were obtained. The whole procedure can be accomplished in 36 h. The presence of only false positive results and high sensitivity the NASBA-ELGA method makes the suggestion that these results were not true false positives but that it is possible that the traditional isolation procedure failed and in fact these results were false negative results for the CCDA isolation procedure which could not be proven.
