To elucidate the suitability and efficiency of powdered oil shale ash as a lime fertilizer long-term field trials were laid out in 1964 on strongly acid soils. The experimental data proved that the first liming of acid soils at a rate of half a dose per hydrolytic acidity was very effective on the background of NPK fertilizers. Systematic application of farmyard manure reduced the influence of lime fertilizer. The influence of lime fertilizer decreased after 10 years of influence however the durability of the influence of prime liming on the yield of agricultural crops was approximately 25 years. The second liming has also secured a considerable increase in yield although its effect falls behind that of the first liming. The durability of the influence of the second liming was approximately 15 years and the durability of the influence of the third liming was 10 years
