In order to study the influence of probiotic cellobacterin on productivity, health and development of cattle, a feeding trial with calves and two with dairy cows were carried out during the transitional period. The trial with calves was carried out with three analogous groups. No cellobacterin was added to the ration of Group 1, Group 2 was given cellobacterin every 5th day. Group 3 was fed cellobacterin every day. Cellobacterin was added to mixed feed, the daily amount was 1g per 10 kg body weight. The results of these trials indicate that adding cellobacterin to the ration increases the daily gain of calves by up to 75 g, and feed utilization improves. We suggest giving cellobacterin in stimulative amounts each 5th day. This enables rumen microflora development, especially the celluloytic bacteria. The use of cellobacterin in the rations of dairy cows during the transitional period helps to reduce the fall in milk yield
