Influence of potassium chloride on the yield and quality on some vegetables on peat substratum
1996
Jaervan, M. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
By replacing potassium sulphate with potassium chloride in the peat substratum, the yield of tomato increased and the content of nitrates decreased, but tomato taste quality worsened. Potassium chloride had an influence on greenhouse cucumber yields equal to potassium sulphate (in pot trials), or in excess (in farm scale trials). Due to chlorides the content of nitrates in cucumbers decreased 11...24 per cent. Potassium sulphate and potassium chloride which were added into the peat substratum in equivalent quantities had an equal effect on the yield of lettuce, spinach, chinese cabbage and radish but with potassium chloride, the content of nitrates in vegetables decreased 8...40 per cent
