Occurrence of Malachius sp. (Coleoptera: Malachiidae) larvae in houses in Southern Greece
1994
Bouchelos, Th.K. | Papadoulis, Th.G. (Agricultural Univ., Athens (Greece). Lab. of Agricultural Zoology and Entomology)
Larvae of Malachiid beetles invade every year - mainly during spring time - houses surrounded by gardens and trees. These larvae, often mistaken by the inhabitants for wood borers, have been identified as Malachius sp. which are predators of wood boring and household insects. An attempt to explain this phenomenon is made and an original detailed sketch of the mature larva and its characteristical features is drawn.
