Preliminary examinations for lightening the plucking in live geese. 3rd Paper: Effects of corn and goose grower diet on plucking strength in combination with progesteron injection and L-Thyroxin tablet

40 geese were fed with corn and 40 geese with goose grower (14 CP) during 3 weeks before plucking. In both groups 12 geese were injected with 5 ml Glanducorpin (10 mg progesterone/ml), and 8 geese were given one tablet of L-Thyroxin (100 microgram levothyroxin-Na) per os. 20 birds were controlled in each group. In the corn-fed group the progesterone and L-Thyroxin treatment increased the plucking strength by 4.7 percent and 9.7 percent in the ganders, but decreased the layers by 5.3 and 7.1 percent, respectively. In the goose grower-fed group the progesterone injection made a 7.0 and 7.2 percent decrease in plucking strength in the ganders and the layers. The L-Thyroxin tablet increased the plucking strength in the ganders by 3.7 percent, but decreased the layers by 1.2 percent. The effect of treatment was not significant
