Rapid method of rice leaf-tissue testing for phosphorus, to predict crop response to phosphorus fertilizer have been developed. The experiment consists of method of sampling (plant part, number of samples and time sampling), method of preparation, extraction, detection, and calibration with the analysis of P using total digestion in the laboratory. The tissue test values were calibrated with field experiments conducted at 17 locations in West Java and Lampung, representing 7 soil types and 3 weather types. The results indicated that the method is good for predicting lowland rice response to phosphorus fertilizer. There were high-significant quadratic relationship between grain yield of IR64 and the rate of phosphorus fertilizer, total P leaf content and values of tissue testing. The critical level of P by using tissue testing was 15 ppm for IR64 at active tillering to maximum tillering stage, and 6.5 ppm P for IR64 at primordia and milking stage. There were significant differences of P-values among varieties. The P-values of tissue test of IR64 and Krueng Aceh were higher than that of IR42,C4 and IR36
