Employment of genetic engineering techniques in early detection of sex and varieties of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) in Iraq
1994
Jubrael, J.M.S. (Ipa Agric. Res. Center (Iraq))
This study represents a continuation of an already established molecular biology program aiming to develop and utilize DNA-markers namely Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms (RFLPs) to facilitate early detection of sex and varieties of date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.) in order to provide a necessary number of date palm DNA probes from which a prerequisite for this purpose, a genomic bank was prepared. To achieve this, large quantities of the plasmid pGEM-7zf(-) DNA were isolated (900-1100 ug) with purity of about (1.8-1.9)
