Quality response of low yielding tea to rates and splitting nitrogen fertilizer application in the Eastern and Western Kenya highlands

High rates of nitrogenous fertilizer reduced the quality of black teas in both Eastern and Western highlands of Kenya. However, whereas split application of the nitrogenous fertilizer evenly during the year has no effect on quality in the Western highlands, in the Eastern Kenya highlands it resulted in beneficial quality improvement. Thus in addition to ensuring uniform fertilizer distribution during application, splitting nitrogen application can also improve farmers' net income through quality
