Minamida, S. (Chiba Univ., Matsudo (Japan). Faculty of Horticulture)
This is the first of a three-part research paper intended as a tentative analysis of Teikei of copartnership, a type of producer-consumer relationship characteristic of the organic agriculture movement in Japan. Teikei, as defined by the Japan Organic Agriculture Association (JOAA), consists primarily in the "relationship of friendly reciprocity" between food producers and consumers, but we are afraid that its basic ideas are not yet so well understood as they should or might be. The present paper (Part One) describes and elucidates the basic ideas of Teikei as defined by the "Prospectus" and the "Ten Principles of Teikei" collected in the "Proposals for Organic Agriculture" published by JOAA. The overall purpose of this research is: 1) to identify and clearly define the basic ideas of Teikei; 2) to present and describe them to the nation-wide and international audience in clearly understandable language; 3) to encourage and invite constructive criticism on this topic
