The article presents the quality evaluation results of biologically treated sewage sludge from Riga city waste-water treatment plants during the period of 1992-1996. The chemical analyses data obtained after a single sampling of sewage sludge (autumn 1996) in nine other locations of Latvia are also presented. The sludge is evaluated for its possible use as soil fertilizer. Dynamics of heavy metal content in soils and plants after sludge applications are studied in production trials under the monitoring of agricultural land.
