Monitoring, control and surveillance in fisheries management
1996
Hersoug, B. | Paulsen, O. (Norwegian University of Fisheries Science, Tromso (Norway))
Many developing coutries with fishing industries fail to reap the benefits of EEZ (exclusive economic Zones) due to lack of effective management measures. The book examines the role and functions of MCS (monitoring, control and surveillance) in fisheries management systems. It demonstrates the usefulness of an organized MCS-system through 3 case studies: for Norway, Namibia and Mozambique, each at different levels of development of MCS. Cost-benefit must be considered in the implemetation of MCS.
