Evaluation of potato germplasm for processing

The agronomic performance and processing quality of 36 clones and varieties were evaluated at the Research Inst. for Vegetables at Lembang, Bandung, Indonesia. All the planting materials, except Granola, came from Victoria, Australia. The following varieties and clones exhibited good yield and produced high proportions of large tubers: Vc 88.14 Vc 88.8, Kennebec, Vc 33.9, Jopung, 2-120.9 and Sequoia. Five clones had specific gravity (SG) readings higher than 1.081: 384558.10, FLS-1, FBA-6, B8716.4 and Vc 33.9. Ten other clones had SG greater than 1.070. The SG of Granola and Kennebec was only 1.042 and 1.054, respectively. The total sugar content of the 36 clones ranged from 1.4-5.7 percent. Only two entries (FBA-1 and Sequoia) had sugar contents less than 2 percent. The sugar contents of Kennebec, 384558.10, Vc 88.8 and Vc 33.9, which were the best yielders in the trial, were 3.4, 2.8, 3.9 and 5.6 percent, respectively
