Six F2 families produced by intercrossing of different hexaploid triticale lines have been studied in the glass house to investigate genetic variation within and between these triticale hybrids for straw length, heading time and number of ears per plant. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant genetic variation between and within F2 families for these characters. Heritability estimates were also high particularly for straw length as well as for heading time.
