Six flue-cured virginia (Nicotiana tabacum L.) varieties were evaluated for their growth, yield and other morphological characteristics at Swabi during the year 1987-88. The maximum cured leaf yield of 2487 kg/ha was obtained from the new promising variety NC-13, followed by NC-89 and Speight. G-28 with a cured leaf yield of 2286 and 2190 kg/ha respectively. Regarding leaf size and leaf number, variety NC-13 gave maximum leaf size of 3011.23 cm square and leaf number of 33 per plant. Different growth characteristics and yield potential of varieties under study may be attributed to their different genetic behavior.
