Farmers' participatory processes on soil and water conservation of Bukidnon uplands [Philippines]

After seven years of MUSUAN program implementation the number of farmers who adopted soil conservation in their farms were 50 in Himaya with a total area conserved of 54.9 hectares, 37 farmers in San Jose with a total area of 31.91 hectares conserved, 40 farmers in Sabacan with 35.79 hectares conserved and 61 farmers in Managok with a total of 67.74 hectares conserved. In terms of actual number of gmelina trees survived from out of those dispersed to the farmers, in Himaya, there are 36 farmers with a total of 14,514 trees; in San Jose, 51 farmers with 9,451 trees; in Sabacan 64 farmers with 15,602 trees and in Managok, 59 farmers with 17,822 trees. The main hedgerows employed by the farmers are wild sunflower. The four pilot sites become models of upland development in Bukidnon which other farmers, students and scientists visited to emulate the technology on soil and water conservation
