Study of genomic constitution of F2 hybrids Brassica juncea x B. carinata on the basis of chromosome pairing

With the aim to establish a presumptive genomic constitution of F2 hybrids obtained from crossing two yellow-seeded forms Brassica juncea (AABB) and B. carinata (BBCC), the chromosome pairing at metaphase I of meiosis was analysed in detail. The observed chromosome configurations were interpreted chiefly on the basis of the known degree of affinity between A, B and C genomes as well as on the basis of their ability to auto- and allosynthesis in hybrid material. This made it possible to determine a presumable genomic constitution for three alloploid forms of F2 with different numbers of somatic chromosomes: 2n=33 - BBCC; 2n=35 - ABBC; 2n=34 - BBCC
