Arctic soils formation in the area of lakes occurrence (West Spitsbergen)

During investigation in the vicinity of the lakes, typical to the south coast of Bellsund, a certain toposequence in the soils location was noticed. Gleyic-cell soils (weakly humic), accompanying the water surface, together with rising of the ground, change into soils of undefined typology or into striped soils and then into brown soils. Their grain-size and the composition of plant species change in the same direction. The content of CaCO3 in the tested soils is significant and the reaction is usually alkalic. The content of calcium and magnesium forms soluble in 0.03 M CH3COOH is high, the content of sodium sometimes is in some measure high, the amounts of phosphorus and potassium are low
