Application of liquid chromatography for determination of cyanogenic glucosides in Polish varieties of white clover (Trifolium repens L.)
1995

Seven Polish varieties of white clover, together with Swiss variety Milkanova were grown in pure stands on the experimental farm in Pulawy, Poland during 1994. They were analysed for cyanogenic glucoside content. It was shown that the oldest and the most widely grown variety, Podkowa, was completly free of cyanogenic glucosides. The newly developed varieties contained considerable amounts of glucosides. The presented data show that long lasting confidence in the low frequency or cyanogenesis in Polish white clover varieties should be revised. Newly developed varieties bred for improved agronomic traits may contain high quantities of antinutrients
