In farm economics it is realized that among farmers there is a large variation in capacity and willingness to reach the economic optimal organization of production. In sociology, these differences in farm oraganization under similar natural, social-economic and technical conditions are referred to as "style of farming". The present paper focuses on the assessment of different styles of farming among arable farms in a specific region in the Netherlands. Viability perspectives are outlined for these styles considering two scenarios of technical and institutional changes
