Evaluation of some factors affecting an occurrence of legumes in sward of valley meadows and pastures on the Lublin upland

The studies conducted in 1993-95 on permanent grassland in 10 river valleys of the Lublin upland showed that the soil moisture content and farm management were main factors affecting an appearence of legumes in meadow sward. Following legume species were identified in examined meadows nad pastures: Lathyrus pratensis, Lotus corniculatus, Lotus uliginosus, Trifolium pratense, Trifolium repens, Vicia cracca, sometimes Medicago lupulina, Trifolium hybridum, Trifolium dubium. Legume percentages in the sward and species differentiation were higher on dry mineral soils than on wetter post-boggy soils. Fertile soils of neutral and alkaline reaction, rich in P, K, Ca, Cu, specially conduced to legume growth
