Application of formic acid in a special applicator on comparable colonies (one story type) showed a mite extermination of 96 percent (mean). The daily mean amout of evaporated formic acid was 17.5 g (min. 10 g, max. 34.0 g). The number of killed bees due to the treatment is negligable, less than 0.02 percent. Queen losses did not occur at all. The recommended dosage for one-storie-colonies resp. two-storie-colonies is 6 g to about 10 g per day and storie, time of evaporation about 10 days
