The research was conducted to study the possibility of optimization of nutrition of winter wheat with N in order to be able to contribute to the increased economical efficiency of fertilization as well as reduction of further pollution with nitrates of drinking water underground sources. Results show that to reach the optimum yield of wheat an adequate dose at the first supplementary fertilization applied at the end of winter is of a crucial importance. With the analysis of content of nitrate nitrogen in soil after the wheat harvest of the experimental fields of Jablje and Rakican it was established that fertilization with excessive nitrogen doses influenced the content of nitrate in soil above the recommended value. The results of the research in the first year have already shown that the analysis of soil using Nmin method is a sound basis for the guided fertilization of winter wheat with nitrogen.
