Differences in content of cell walls (NDF) as well as in representation of their individual fractions (ADF and hemicelluloses) were determined by roughage analysis - lucerne at the beginning of bud formation, lucerne hay, meadow herbage, maize and top silages. The highest content of NDF and ADF was found in the meadow herbage (583.4 and 367.2 g per kg), and of hemicelluloses in the maize silage (252.2 g per kg). The digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and crude protein was determined in vitro. Significant differences in digestibility were found. The tendency however was not the same in all kinds of feeds. Correlation analysis indicated the significant negative relation of digestibility of dry matter, and/or organic matter and content of cell walls or their fractions in meadow herbage, of organic matter and NDF in maize silage (P less than 0.01), dry matter or crude protein and NDF or ADF in lucerne hay (P less than 0.05). Highly significant regression relation was found between the NDF proportion in organic matter and digestibility of dry matter (r=-0.845) or organic matter (r=-0.874) for the whole set of the feeds analysed
