The efficiency of chalkbrood disease (Ascosphaerosis larvae apium) treatment with the effective substance nystatin in the preparation Fungicidin (Leciva Praha, Czech Republic) was evaluated. Three groups of bee colonies were compared: Group A - hygienic treatment was performed before the medicamentous treatment, the bees were shifted to clean, disinfected hives to new honeycombs, the soil in front of flight boards was disinfected, Group B - only the medicament was applied (2 times within 10 days), and Group C - no measures were taken. Fungicidin was applied in form of water suspension spray at a dose of 3 - 5 fine crushed dragees in 250 ml lukewarm water, i.e. 1.5 - 2.5 mil.u. per colony according to its weight and intensity of occurrence. The clinical state in the brood-chambers and the occurrence of relapse was observed regularly after the treatment. The highest treatment effectiveness (A=92.86 %) was achieved in group A in which the medicamentous therapy was combined with the hygienic treatment. Lower effectiveness of treatment (A=64.28 %) was in the group in which only the preparation was applied. This confirms the experience verified in apiarian practice that it is not possible to restore to health bee colonies with the application of effective medicaments only because the spores of the fungus survive in the hive surroundings. It is necessary to use therapy combined with hygienic treatment before the medicamentous treatment to increase the efficiency of the medicamentous therapy. The results document that the lowest occurrence of the disease was noticed again in the group in which the hygienic treatment of bee colonies was performed a year before
