[How good is the Surinamese farmer? Technical and economical results in the pig breeding sector, possibilities for improvement?]

Since 1986 there has been a decline in the pig farming sector. The shortcomings in the way they conduct their business and the results thereof and the causes of technical losses are discussed. Furthermore information is given about the identification systems, the absence of a clear breeding direction and production administration, insufficient know-how, the veterinary care, no participation in the decision making and the lack of information and support. Finally the advantages of working in agricultural cooperations and the compulsory registration of farmers in these cooperations for an effective cooperation with the government are discussed
