Sine 1982, Kasetsart University Mungbean Breeding Project also conducted experiments on mungbean genetics and breeding to support its breeding work. The genetic study included inheritance of resistance to powdery mildew disease, Cercospora leaf spot disease and bean fly; inheritance of lobed leaflets, multiple leaflets, top podding, seed starch content, yield and yield components. Study on mungbean breeding included comparison of selection methods, stability study, mutation breeding and tissue culture. However, mungbean breeding work requires large inputs in staff and capital. Thus the project will continue working cooperatively with the afore-mentioned institutes so that the future improved mungbean cultivars are most beneficial to Thai farmers.
