Budhi Sutikno, Y. (Manager of Animal Health, Iawa Tengah (Indonesia))
Field trials on estrus synchronization using natural prostaglandins (Dinoprost-Lutalyse, and Enzaprost-F) and synthetic prostaglandin (Luprostiol/Reprodin) were carried out in Central Java Indonesia. The trials included cattle owned by 1.220 farmers in 61 locations within 6 villages. The field trials included the use of 2.191 lactating Friesian Holstein dairy cows. Cows were selected from computerized records. All cows were 120 days in milk or more and were established to be cycling and free of uterine infection by rectal palpation. The system was designed to eliminate as much human error as possible in the study. Methods included two injections of prostaglandins at product reccomended doses. The injections were given on day 1 and day 11. Following the 2 nd injection, two inseminations were administered. One 72 hours following the 2 nd injection and one 96 hours following the 2 nd injection. This is called a Blind Service Method. Pregnancy rate was established by rectal palpation.
