Effect of foliar fertilizer monopotassium phosphate on flowering in 'Khom" lychee

Effects of monopotassium phosphate applied as foliar spray at the rates of 0, 2,500, 5,000 and 7,500 ppm on flowering in 'Khom' lychee were undertaken in Samut Songkram Province. The trees were sprayed thrice at a weekly interval when the leaves reached fully-matured stage. Branches from 2 different levels of tree canopy, the upper and lower level (60-80 cm band width from the lowest branch) were employed for evaluation on flowering and bud breaking. There was no effect of foliar sprays, either on flowering or bud breaking, at all concentrations used. However, higher concentrations tended to decrease both flowering and bud breaking. Branches from the upper level showed a greater tendency on flowering and bud breaking than the lower ones. Leaves from the upper branches, probably received greater light intensity, which could be the major factor of this effect.
