Effect of cyclic variation in draft on draft control system
1989
Singh, Nimesh
Effect of cyclic variation in draft on draft control system was studied. Speed and depth of ploughing were varied to find their effect on cyclic variation. The experiments were done by using mouldboard plough at field moisture content of 24 % d.b. The settings of the draft control system were not disturbed. The settings were as per the recommendations of the manufacturer. For comparison, the test runs were done in two modes of setting, i.e. position and draft control. The cyclic nature in the draft was observed. The difference in peak and trough values were 5+-2 kN. The fracture length remained almost the same at all the speeds and depths at about 1+-0.2 m. The total frequency range was divided into two groups. Lower frequency range corresponds to the actual soil failure frequency whereas the higher frequency corresponds to frequency of the blocks of soil failing over the mouldboard surface. The response of the draft control system was effected by the lower frequencies of the draft. The performance of the draft control system was better in low speed third gear than low speed, first or second gear.
