The results of the multi-factorial field experiments are given on use of intermediate crops in short-term crop rotations. A large number of intermediate crops is revealed that are suitable for these purposes. Winter cereal grass mixtures (vetch + triticale, rye + winter wheat) are shown to provide yields of green mass 300-370 c/ha, 50-67 c of feed units and 7,5-7,9 c digestible protein. In early spring and late autumn intermediate crops and spring crops as follows are the base: land cress, oil radish, cereal-legume mixtures. Their productivity reaches up to 300-325 c/ha of green mass, 60 c/ha of feed units and 7,0-7,5 c/ha of protein. Growing of maize and its mixtures with soybean or pea as intermediate crops for grain and silage makes it possible to use more effectively irrigated soils. Good results were obtained when using esparcet as intermediate crop after harvesting winter crops before sowing maize. It uses effectively conditions of a year from August of a previous year till mid-May of next year providing 350 c/ha and balanced protein content. Using intermediate crops in short term rotations is found to be a rather effective measure for biological regulation of soil fertility
