Festuca rubra, edificator species in grasslands, is a very sensitive species in shade. It strongly decreases tillering in relation with plants grown under the upper value of Pfr/Ptot (phytochrome far red:phytochrome total). Under the red light it also forms a greater leaf area. Chlorophyll content and wet and dry matter productivity have not been changed in shade light microconditions phytochrome mediates in control of morphogenetic reactions. The sensitivity to gibberellin of exhibited morphogenetic responses is increased with EOD (the end of day treatments) red and far red light. The results suggest that Festuca rubra demands the open areas of wide hilly grasslands, where it could dominate. GA3 exhibits effect on seed germination kinetics in Festuca rubra and delays germination in the initial period of imbibition. This phenomenon is recorded in temperature interval of 1.1 - 24.5 deg C.
