Island waterways classification in Yugoslavia
1996
Zakula, D. (Ustanova za odrzavanje unutrasnjih plovnih puteva, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
The classification of inland waterways in Yugoslavia does not exist, except for the Danube which is classified according to the criteria of the Danubian Commission. The existing situation provokes many problems for long term planning and has negative effects on navigation safety. In addition, this situation necessitated the erection of several uneconomical structures alongside the inland waterways. Author of this paper suggests to include this classification as a part of the corresponding Yugoslav Law on Maritime and Inland Navigation. The proposed classification should be based upon the classification brought by ECE-OUN, amended in such a way to include the additional criteria of safe navigational conditions. Classification given in this paper is developed bearing in mind the characteristics of Yugoslav navigable rivers and navigable canals of the DTD (Danube-Tisza-Danube) hydrosystem.
