By comparative investigations of interrow cultivators with passive and active working tools the differences have been found in the rate of weed control, plant damages and yields of the crops investigated (sugar beet, soybean and maize). The advantages of cultivators with active working tools are in smaller damage and ridging of plants from 13 in maize to 18.9 in soybean. It was found that with cultivators with active working tools was more difficult to maintain the direction on the laterally inclined terrains. For the same operation width it is necessary two times more engaged engine power of tractor to the cultivator with active working tools. Consumption of fuel with cultivator having passive working tools is by 12 lower in relation to the same operation width with cultivator having active working tools. The work quality of cultivator with passive working tools may be considerably increased by adding special kinds of equipment components.
