The chiroptera of Western Java, more particularly of the nature reserve of Ujung-Kulon | Les cheiropteres de Java-Ouest, principalement de la reserve d'Ujung-Kulon
1996
Verschuren, J. (Institut royal des sciences naturelles de Belgique, Bruxelles (Belgium))
The nature reserve of Ujung-Kulon lies in the extreme West of Java (Indonesia). Its fauna remained unknown for a long time. So far twelve species of chiroptera have been reported, with a majority of Pteropidae. As they were caught essentially with nets, the total number of species is undoubtedly higher. The author provides data especially about the ecology of each species. Pteropus vampyrus is very vulnerable to human predation, whereas Tadarida plicata seems to be locally subjected to human constructions. Some comparisons are made with African chiroptera
