The virulence structure of Erysiphe graminis populations on barley is important for the epidemic success of barley powdery mildew. Preliminary results suggest that, though E. graminis populations on wild barley show high pathotype diversity, the virulence complexity of respective E. graminis populations in Turkey is lower than in German E. graminis populations. More research is needed and should take into account the mildew resistance structure of the host population.
