Soil contamination by windrow composting: new aspects
1998
Fuchs, J. (Biophyt AG, Forschungs- und Beratungsinstitut fuer angewandte Agronomie une Oekologie, Fehraltorf (Switzerland))
In the context of an investigation on the environmental effects of three compost windrows on field soils, soil samples were taken underneath the windrows and in a distance of 5 m apart and analysed on their content in heavy metals and plant nutrients. The samples have been taken in early summer after a period of heavy rain. It was found that the loads of heavy metals especially of lead, copper and zinc as well as some nutrients are increased, in some cases to an extreme extent.
