The paper deals with the development problems in rural areas Slovak villages. The changes of the significance role of agriculture in the village life are studied. The information about the new strategies, new structures and the present state collected in the frame of the International research project on rural employment and rural regeneration in post socialist Central Europe is presented. The aim was to find out possible positive (or negative) changes occurred in the development of the communities and to identify the most important needs in rural areas.
