Peas, soybean oil meal and turnip rape seeds as feed for swine
1998
Orgmets, E (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
Soybean oil meal can be replaced by peas in the rations for growers and fattening pigs without impairing their growth, fattening performance and meat quality. It is possible to prepare rations in a pig farm, using local peas, barley and purchased feed supplements which guarantee high performance of growers and fattening pigs and feasible commercial production. The experiments carried out with the mixed feed rations confirmed that it was possible to guarantee normal performance of growers and fattening pigs as well as economical feasibility of production. The economical production requires close co-operation of feed producers and swine keepers. The boars with appropriate meat traits should be selected to gain pigs of high lean meat content and good meat quality
