1998
Kaldmae, H. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
Linseed cake produced at Mooste experimental station contained an average 89.1 per cent of dry matter, 30.4 per cent of crude protein, 17.2 per cent of crude fat, 258 g/kg of digestible protein and 13.1 MJ/kg of metabolizable energy. The linamarin content in fat-free DM of linseed cakes in different batches was between 0.4...1.0 per cent. It is recommended to add 15 per cent linseed cake to a concentrate for calves, this increases the protein and energy content of concentrates. The daily gain of the calves of the trial group was 701 g on average. If calves have digestion disturbances in their first life months feeding of precooked linseed is recommended: 1 kg linseed and 10 l water should be boiled for 10 minutes. After having been fed with it thrice the calves recovered. Calves recovered usually after thrice treatment with precooked linseed
