Effect of agrotechnical factors and hybrids on the quality of silage maize II. Fibre and digestible organic matter content
1996

The result of experiments, carried out in 1994 and 1995 lead to the following conclusions: 1. The choice of hybrid may influence the crude fibre, detergent fibre and DOMD contents. 2. Late harvesting up to physiological maturity will result in lower fibre content and greater digestibility. 3. N fertilization has no influence on the crude fibre content but affects the fibre components. It may increase the DOMD content, but in years with poor rainfall supplies (1995) the yield-depressing effect of N fertilization may be reflected in the DOMD content. 4. Organic matter digestibility showed the greatest correlation with ADF content. The nutritional value of harvested silage maize cannot be judged on the basis of dry matter content alone
