Study on some environmental factors affecting weekly milk production in Iraqi buffaloes
1994
Avadessian, G.A. (Baghdad Univ. Coll. of Agric. Dept. Animal Resources (Iraq))
179 weekly milk production records of 67 Iraqi buffaloes recorded from week first to week fifteenth of production during the period from 1983-1988, were analysed to study the effect of parity, season of calving and year of calving on milk production. Average milk yield at 1st week was 27.0 + 0.7 kg and reached the highest level at the 11th week (42.2+1.0 kg) while the production was 40.5+0.8kg at the last week. Parity had a highly significant effect (p0.01) on weekly milk production during the entire period, while season of calving had a significant effect (p0.05) at the 1st and 15th weeks only. Year of calving had a significant effect on each of the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 13th,and 15th weeks. Average milk yield during the study was (586.5+13.3kg). Each of parity and year of calving had a significant effect on this average, while season of calving had no significant effect on it inspite of the high milk yield in the spring
