1998
Bulbiks, P. | Zute, S. | Gruntina, M. (State Stende Plant Breeding Station, Stende (Latvia))
The oat variety "Arta" (Avena sativa, var. mutica) has been created in the State Stende Plant breeding and research station during 1982-1993. The variety is acquired as the result of hybridization from the combinations of crossing (Hja 71801 x Kuroekaura), authors: P.Bulbiks, M. Gruntina et al. The task of selection is to create medium early, high yielding oat variety. Variety "Arta" is characterised by a high grain quality (protein content in grains is 11-13%, content of husk 19-22%, volume weight of grains 500-520 g.lE-1). Essential feature of the variety is early yielding (5-8 days before standart varieties "Selma" and "Laima"). Although yielding of the variety is lower than that of the standard according to the quality of grains, which is good, the variety "Arta" is included in the Recommended list of varieties for 1999.
