Alternative compost fungus activator (CFA) production technology for organic fertilizer production

The traditional method of producing compost fungus activator using Trichoderma harzianum is with the use of sawdust as substrate. The availability of sawdust, however is becoming limited, hence there is a need to look for a substitute for sawdust in compost fungus activator (CFA) in order to support the production of organic fertilizer and recycling of farm wastes. Different forms of corn cobs and its combination with sawdust were tested for CFA production at SKPSC, Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat [Philippines]. Results showed that compost fungus activator (T. harzianum) grows better in partially decomposed corn cobs and milled corn cobs than in plain sawdust or its combination with corn cobs. Trichoderma fungus developed and colonized impartially decomposed corn cobs 5 to 7 days ahead than the sawdust substrates
