Biology of the castor oil semi-looper, Achae janata L. (Noctuidae, Lepidoptera) was determined under laboratory conditions for use in the mass rearing of E. fucellata, a predator of slug caterpillar (Limacodidae). The semi-looper was found to be an ideal alternate host for the mass culture of the predator due to its high fecundity (244 fertile eggs per female), rapid increase in larval size (65-69 mm body length in 13 days), short life span (41 days), and ease in handling
