The development of prototype remote sensing, geographic information systems, and oil spill trajectory modelling application is an exercise to utilize information technology for baseline (including environmental sensitivity) mapping and to support the establishment of a national oil spill crisis management center. The prototype is being developed for the study area of East Kalimantan along the Makassar Strait in Indonesia, involving national agencies directly responsible for oil spill response including the Directorate General of Sea Communication, Environmental Impact Management Agency (BAPEDAL) and oil and gas industries. The prototype is concentrated on the integration of available databases within agencies and provinces with remotely sensed environmental sensivity index maps and oil spill trajectory models. The selection of East Kalimantan, with its on- and off-shore oil and gas plants, is expected to drive a more integrated approach involving agencies and industries, to implementing the national oil spill contingency plan
