The effect of different ZnSO4 levels viz., 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 kg ha-1 on the ripening and yield of coarse and yield of coarse rice varieties IR-6 and KS-282 was investigated on clay loam soil. The results obtained indicated that applied ZnSO4 seems to be appropriate and useful to get more paddy yield with better quality kernels. ZnSO4 levels 12 and 16 kg/ha produced maximum plant height (cm), number of panicle bearing tillers, number of spikelets per panicle, normal kernels, 1000-grains weight (gm) paddy and straw yields (kg) which, however, did not differ from each other statistically. Similarly maximum reduction in sterility (%), abortive and opaque kernels (%) were recorded in treatments 12 and 16 kg ZnSO4 ha-1 as compared with check.
