The commonly found vitamins in the tissue culture medium include thiamine, myo-inositol, nicotinic acid and pyridoxine-HCL. During present studies, four concentrations (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mg 1-1) of each of nicotinic acid and pyridoxine-HCL in all possible combinations were tested for their effect on growth of callus cultures of Gossypium hirsutum L.cv. Acala SJ2. The results presented in this paper suggest that none of the vitamins tested had any beneficial effect on callus growth. Furthermore, these vitamins were inhibitory to growth. Their omission from the culture medium increased relative growth rates of both kinds of calli.
