Occurrence of graft-transmissible diseases of citrus in the highlands of Northern Luzon, Philippines

Observation and indexing of the graft-transmissible diseases of citrus found in the highlands of Northern Luzon [Philippines] through continuous orchard monitoring are reported. Citrus tristeza virus and greening/leaf mottling are the two most important diseases affecting citrus. Other diseases found are woody gall/vein venation and bud-union disorder of sweet orange on rough lemon rootstock. Symptoms induced by citrus tristeza virus include stem pitting stunting and small fruit production on sweet orange and in a local mandarin cultivar called "gayuman". Likewise, greening/leafmottling diseases continues to be a threat in the highlands. It causes a debiliating effect on sweet orange and most mandarin cultivars. Co-infection with both diseases was common resulting to a more rapid decline. The incidence of the vector Diaphorina citri Kuway and preliminary results on the search for mild strains with possibility for cross protection will likewise be reported
